Extraordinary Conceptions approaches all aspects of fertility with sensitivity, respect and dignity and is committed to the success of our clients.

Mario Caballero, Executive Director at Extraordinary Conceptions, gained many years of experience in sales and customer service through a successful career in health care and the medical insurance industry where he dealt with both patients and doctors. His experience in the industry is an invaluable asset.

Traveling abroad on average every 3-4 months, Mario is able to meet personally with many international couples. Notifications of his travel plans are kept up to date and shared in News section of this website.

Following a long struggle with their own infertility Mario and his wife became the proud parents when his wife’s cousin carried and gave birth to their twins. Their fertility journey included more than 10 artificial inseminations (IUIs), three surgeries, three miscarriages, and 13 IVF procedures before finally realizing their dream of becoming parents.

Mario and the staff at Extraordinary Conceptions are committed to making the experience at Extraordinary Conceptions as easy as possible for each Donor, Surrogate and Future Parent. Thank you for visiting our site.

Extraordinary Conceptions is a bi-lingual and an international agency that matches egg donors and surrogates to couples or individuals who need help building their families. Extraordinary Conceptions, headquartered near San Diego, California, with consultation offices located in Carlsbad, is a full-service surrogacy and egg donation agency that was founded in 2005 and run by Executive Director, Mario Caballero.

We believe that anyone who has struggled with infertility can have the family they’ve dreamed about and we are committed to helping you bring these dreams to life by guiding you through every step of assisted reproduction and helping you make all the right decisions regarding a surrogate, egg donor or as intended parents. Our staff is here to provide you with the support you need regarding third party reproduction.  We are a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Resolve, the national non-profit infertility organization and the Society for Reproductive Professionals adhering to professional guidelines and ethics required by all Professional Members.

Our egg donors and surrogates are available to view through our online egg donor and surrogate database.  Our egg donor and surrogate database is certainly one of the most comprehensive in the industry because we verify our egg donors’ and surrogates’ credentials, availability each month, and we remove those egg donors and surrogates that are no longer part of the program.   We also add new egg donors and surrogates to the database each week.

Our program provides a comprehensive list of egg donors and surrogates that possess most physical or mental characteristics desired by a recipient family.  We screen and select only those donors and surrogates that fit our program’s strict requirements.

Based upon interviews with potential recipients, our egg donor lists can be tailored to provide individuals with characteristics specific to the wishes of our future parents.  Please take time to view our online database for egg donors and surrogates that are currently available.

Our commitment to you at Extraordinary Conceptions is to listen, guide and support you through the entire process of egg donation and surrogacy.  We fully understand the impact that infertility can have and are here to provide clear and honest communication, personalized attention and honor your right to confidentiality and privacy by building a solid relationship with intended parents, egg donors and surrogates.  Extraordinary Conceptions is located in Carlsbad, California, just minutes from San Diego and easily accessible from Orange County, Riverside and Los Angeles.  We have the experience and reputation to fully assist and oversee a successful egg donation and/or surrogacy arrangement, minimizing risks in your most precious investment. Our policy is to Focus on You.

Our policy is to Focus on You

Our focus is on you. We want to relieve your stress by concentrating on your needs by helping you find the right candidate in order to achieve success before we collect any funds. Egg Donors

Extraordinary Conceptions provides services to clients worldwide, expertly guiding Egg Donors and Future Parents through the process of assisted reproduction. We take steps to eliminate women who have medical and social histories that make them unacceptable and seek women who do not have genetic problems that could be passed on to a child by carefully reviewing donor profiles upon application. We have over 2,100 egg donors of all ethnicities ranging in age from 18-32 and most are willing to travel. Our donors are women who are creative, bright, giving and well educated. Women donate for a variety of personal reasons including a desire to help couples in their quest for parenthood. Through a careful selection process donor candidates are required to provide personal and family history by completing our detailed questionnaire. This information, along with photographs of the donor, are provided to the Future Parent to help them in making a donor selection. Donor assistance gives women the highest chance of becoming a parent over all other infertility treatment. Extraordinary Conceptions staff is excited to be of help in such a vital way.

What happens if the IVF isn’t successful?

In the unfortunate case that an IVF cycle isn’t successful; Extraordinary Conceptions is committed to your success. We recognize that egg donation and surrogacy can be extremely expensive, so we have developed a Single Agency Fee Experience (S.A.F.E). If the egg donor or surrogacy cycle is not successful the first time, the client may proceed with another donor or surrogate until positive results are achieved without paying another agency fee. There is no other agency offering this type of guarantee and we have done so without raising our prices.

Future Parents

Mario Caballero, the Executive Director of Extraordinary Conceptions, understands the absolute joy a surrogate gives when she carries and gives birth to a future parents’ child because his own twins were born through surrogacy after he and his wife experienced a 10-year struggle with infertility. Surrogacy is a wonderful option for those couples and individuals unable to conceive on their own. Even unmarried men and women or gay and lesbian couples are finding they too can be parents through the assistance of an egg donor and surrogate.

Mario, in addition to being able to personally relate with Extraordinary Conceptions clients, has a vast knowledge of the medical insurance industry after working for one of the largest insurance companies in the United States for many years. Medical Insurance as marketed and required within the United States is an area which can be confusing for many international clients.

Extraordinary Conceptions is here to help facilitate communications between the intended parents and the surrogate regarding all the arrangements, including financial. Our surrogates are intensively screened and educated about the process. An investigation of the surrogate’s background, including her spouse or partner, if applicable, is done. Each surrogate is interviewed by a psychologist who provides a report of her support system, family structure, mental/emotional state and ability to fulfill her role as a surrogate. This first meeting lays the groundwork for their relationship. During the process the psychologist or Extraordinary Conceptions own Surrogacy Support Group will provide support and help the surrogate to deal with any difficulties.

There are a number of US States that provide favorable legal climates for surrogacy arrangements, which is one reason clients from around the world undergo their IVF procedures in California and work with Surrogates living in other states. Located in San Diego, California, Extraordinary Conceptions works closely with California attorneys who are experienced in handling surrogacy and egg donation arrangements. These attorneys frequently represent clients who reside in other states, as well as foreign countries, and will assist intended parents throughout the surrogacy process – from contract drafting to establishing parental rights.

For Extraordinary Conceptions’ clients who deliver in states recommended by their Match Coordinators, pre-birth parental judgments offer the opportunity for Future Parents to be named parents of their offspring born through surrogacy prior to the birth. These judgments direct the hospital to place the named parents or parent on the original birth certificates and are available to clients regardless of where they live in the U.S. or the world. Extraordinary Conceptions Match Coordinators being familiar with Surrogacy laws nationwide are able to provide guidance in matching you with surrogates who reside in states with favorable laws to suit your specific needs.

Extraordinary Conceptions will be there to assist and lead you through the process. We look forward to providing opportunities for parents to see their dreams come true.

Surrogates

Step 1 – The beginning of the international relationship

  • Fill out the parent application in order to receive the access code to our database of egg donors and surrogates. This will allow you to view the girls and get to know them in your own time.
  • A consultation in person or by phone will take place with one of our surrogacy case coordinators in order to provide you with the necessary information to start the surrogacy process.
  • With our ‘Focus on You’ approach, we work closely with you to help facilitate the surrogacy selection process.

You can anticipate being asked:

  • What are you looking for in your surrogate ?
  • When do you anticipate wanting to begin a cycle ?
  • Have you chosen an IVF Doctor or would you like for us to provide referrals ?

Step 2 – Finding the right surrogate

  • Extraordinary Conceptions’ database will provide you with many details about each surrogate to assist you in your decision making process
  • Once you have chosen a surrogate of interest, she is contacted by your surrogacy case coordinator to verify availability. Upon her indication of interest she provided a copy of your parent profile for review which has been edited to protect your anonymity. If both parties are interested in working together, a meeting in person or by phone will be organized.
  • If the international parents would like to meet their surrogate candidate, a Skype call or a face to face meeting can be arranged at the agency office. The object of this meeting is for each party to get to know each other better, share life stories and determine if they will be comfortable working together.
  • Once a Match is made, retainers are signed and things proceed onto the Medical evaluation phase.

Step 3 – Medical evaluation

  • Once you have selected a surrogate, she will undergo a medical evaluation – at your cost – with a doctor of your choosing who specializes in In-vetro fertilization (IVF),
  • After the surrogate has been medically approved, you will be required to make the first payment – covering the agency fees.
  • At this point, you will be required to obtain medical insurance for your surrogate. If the surrogate has her own insurance, you will be required to purchase a backup insurance plan, pay her premium payments and copayments as set forth by her insurance carrier. Many medical insurance plans require lien amounts ($) to be set aside
  • Referrals will be provided to you for your convenience, to educate you on other Insurance options available for use during a surrogacy cycle.

NOTE: Many Insurance carriers exclude surrogacy.

Step 4 – The legal & financial process

  • Once the surrogate completes the medical evaluation successfully, the first deposit has been paid, and the trust accounts established, the legal document process begins.
  • Referrals are provided to attorney’s who understand and appreciate the desire you have to create or extend your family. Their personal experience in the field of infertility, ovum donation and surrogacy proves invaluable to you the Intended Parent should you choose to utilize their services
  • Legal referrals are made to those well versed in representing clients who reside in other states, as well as foreign countries. Their services are available to assist intended parents throughout the surrogacy process – from contract drafting, to establishing parental rights
  • After the contracts are signed, contact information is shared allowing the future parent and their surrogate to establish and maintain personal contact. At this time, a second payment funding the trust accounts will be due. These funds are used to pay your surrogates monthly expense allowance, the Embryo transfer fee, the Injectable medications fee, etc.
  • Additional funds will be required over the course of the Surrogacy cycle; The allocation of all funds are clearly outlined in the Single Agency Fee Experience (S.A.F.E) Estimated Cost Sheet you will be provided upon filling out a Future Parent application. Transaction reports for expenditures made from the established trust accounts are provided to you the Future Parent on a monthly basis.

Step 5 – Medical protocol

  • Your IVF clinic will determine your protocol and that of the surrogate.
  • The medical fees for the IVF portion of your cycle are not included, and depend upon the clinic with which you choose to work. All financial arrangements with regard to the IVF portion of your cycle will be made directly with your IVF Doctor or Clinic.

Step 6 – The adventure of pregnancy

  • Approximately10 days after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test will happen. After the confirmation of pregnancy, your surrogate will have ultrasounds around the 2nd or 3rd month; this will depend upon the protocol set out by your IVF doctor. Following this, the surrogate will see her OB/GYN. With the confirmation of a fetal heartbeat, the third deposit into the trust will be required, which will pay the monthly fees of the surrogate.
  • The selection of an OB/GYN will be made by mutual agreement prior to legal contracts being signed.
  • The OB/GYN will determine the level of care which will include but is not limited to the number of prenatal visits, additional medical testing or other procedures they judge necessary to ensure the best health for the surrogate and the baby.
  • The legal documents which establish parental rights are filed at 14 weeks for twins, and at 16 weeks for singletons. The legal documents for you and your surrogate determine the events that will transpire in regard to the surrogacy. It is crucial that each party read and understand the legal contracts and retainers prior to signing them.
  • If you should need translation services or the assistance of an interpreter referrals are available upon request however this service will be coordinated directly by you and is self funded.
  • At 25 weeks of pregnancy the final payment funding the trust accounts will be due. The allocation of funds is clearly outlined in the Single Agency Fee Experience (S.A.F.E) estimated cost sheet you will be provided upon filling out a Future Parent application.
  • It is impossible to predict the baby’s birth date or circumstance surrounding their birth. You therefore need to be ready to travel to the U.S. around the time of the estimated due date provided by your surrogates OB/GYN. The parental establishment documents are provided to the hospital prior to the birth of your child/children. It is imperative that you arrive before the birth, or very soon after the baby’s birth(s).
  • The funds in the trust accounts will remain on deposit for approximately 1 year following the birth of your child/children; this assures that any supplementary medical bills which do not arrive in a timely manner are funded and paid. Once the trust accounts are closed, any remaining funds will be refunded to you.

What happens if the IVF isn’t successful?

In the unfortunate case that an IVF cycle isn’t successful, here are the steps you would take:

  • Following a confirmation of negative pregnancy by your IVF physician, the surrogate will cease taking her medication and will await the beginning of her menstrual cycle.
  • The IVF clinic will educate you on the options available to you; whether choosing to move ahead with frozen embryos or fresh ones.

Extraordinary Conceptions is committed to your success and we recognize that egg donation and surrogacy can be extremely expensive, so we have developed a Single Agency Fee Experience (S.A.F.E). If the egg donor or surrogacy cycle is not successful the first time, the client may proceed with another donor or surrogate until positive results are achieved without paying another agency fee. There is no other agency offering this type of guarantee and we have done so without raising our prices. Our ultimate goal is helping you to achieve success.

FAQs

What is S.A.F.E. egg donation and surrogacy?

Extraordinary Conceptions is committed to your success and we recognize that egg donation and surrogacy can be extremely expensive, so we have developed a Single Agency Fee Experience. If the egg donor or surrogacy cycle is not successful the first time, the client may proceed with another donor or surrogate until positive results are achieved without paying another agency fee. There is no other agency offering this type of guarantee and we have done so without raising our prices.

How are Egg Donors Selected?

Extraordinary Conceptions takes steps to eliminate women who have medical and social histories that make them unacceptable and seeks women who do not have genetic problems that could be passed on to a child by carefully reviewing donor profiles upon application.

Why do Women Donate?

Women donate for a variety of personal reasons including being motivated by desire to help couples in their quest for parenthood.

How do I Find a Donor that has My Traits?

Extraordinary Conceptions has over 2100 donors of various ethnicities, body types, and backgrounds for you to choose from who are willing to help you as a Future Parent fulfill your dream of having a child.

What Type of Donor Information Do Future Parents Receive?

After filling out a brief questionnaire Future parents are provided access to Extraordinary Conceptions database which has over 2100 donor profiles available for your review. Each donor profile includes personal and family history information as well as multiple photographs to assist in making your donor selection.

What does the donor process consist of?

Once a donor has been approved and her profile completed, her status is changed to available and her profile is made viewable. Once chosen as a person of interest by a Future Parent, the donor is contacted by one of Extraordinary Conceptions Donor coordinators to verify her availability. If the donor has done previous donation cycles, the medical records from the retrieval cycle(s) are sent to your IVF Dr. for review. Shortly after being chosen and approved by your IVF Dr., your IVF Clinic will contact the donor to schedule a medical screening appointment; this time frame can vary. The screening appointment will usually include a physical exam, blood tests (including genetic screening, STD testing, drug/nicotine screening, etc.). A review of the donation process is provided with an Egg Donor Nurse Coordinator to assist and assure the donor understands the expectations and obligations required of her during the donation cycle. There will also be psychological screenings and background checks done. During the last two to three weeks of the process your donor will give herself daily injections to stimulate egg development. Your donor will be closely monitored to make sure she is responding well to the medications. She will have approximately 5 early morning monitoring sessions which usually take about 15 minutes involving blood work and vaginal ultrasounds. The egg retrieval is typically a quick 20-30 minute procedure. The procedure involves a light anesthesia but no incisions. After spending approximately 30 to 45 minutes in the recovery room your donor will then go home or back to her hotel knowing that she has just given someone the most gracious gift a woman can give. Your IVF clinic will schedule a follow up session if appropriate.

How Does the Donor Know What Her Responsibilities Are?

When you select your donor, a contract is written and signed by the donor and the future parent(s) that delineates the donor’s responsibilities and clearly states that the Future Parents receive all the eggs produced by the donor in the specified treatment cycle.

How Much Will the Egg Donation Process Cost?

The complete cost varies. For a complete breakdown of the fees, please see the Single Agency Fee Experience (S.A.F.E) Fee Schedule provided to you upon application.

How Does the Donor Receive Her Compensation?

Full funding of the Donation cycle is paid after the donor has been medically cleared and prior to the legal process proceeding. Upon receipt of these funds, Extraordinary Conceptions establishes a trust account from which most cycle expenses are paid. All expenses outlined in the fee scheduled provided to you upon application are paid from this account. Our donor coordinators are available for support, supervision and communication throughout the process as they assist the donor in necessary ways to fulfill her responsibilities; they also coordinate the payments from the trust account at the appropriate intervals as outlined in the contract on her behalf.
